P7 Attend LCDI Paupers’ Grave Memorial Service

14th Mar 2022

**LCDI Paupers’ Grave Memorial Service**

Today, our P7 children were privileged to be invited to a very special service organised by Limavady Community Development Initiative (LCDI). This short memorial service was held to remember almost 1000 local people who lost their lives after becoming destitute and entering The Workhouse during the Famine Years. The service was held at the Paupers’ Graveyard in Scroggy Road. Local ministers as well as the Deputy Mayor led thoughts, readings and prayers. Flowers were laid and a piper played, “Gem of the Roe.”
Six of our pupils; Farrah, Rebekah, Ryan, Ethan, Sophie and Molly read beautiful poems and fantastic ‘Diary Entries’ they had written as part of recent work on The Great Famine.

All the children in the year group made us very proud - they were super! It was a very special afternoon and we are so pleased we got to attend.

We would also like to say a HUGE thank you to the staff of LCDI for the fabulous lunch they provided for our pupils and staff.
