ETI - Sustaining Improvement Inspection Report - December 2018

17th Jan 2019

(ETI) INSPECTION REPORT

A Sustaining Improvement Inspection of Limavady Central Primary School was carried out by Education Training Inspectorate (ETI) on Monday 10th December 2018.

The previous inspection in May 2014 evaluated the overall effectiveness of Limavady Central Primary School as very good.

Four of the teaching unions which make up the Northern Ireland Teachers’ Council (NITC) have declared industrial action primarily in relation to a pay dispute. This includes non-co-operation with the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) and, therefore, inspectors were unable to visit classrooms.

Mrs Smyth and Miss Richardson (designated teacher for child protection) co-operated with the inspectors in relation to their safeguarding responsibilities and provided much detailed information.

During the visit the inspectors commented informally on the warm, welcoming environment and the confidence displayed by a group of our Year 6 pupils who talked to them about a wide range of different learning experiences.

The pupils spoke very fondly and excitedly about their outdoor play space, reassuring the inspectors that they were well supported and cared for by the staff.

Due to the impact of the industrial action, however, a very short, standard report was produced which may be viewed at www.etini.gov.uk.

Like the large majority of schools in our situation a comprehensive inspection will be scheduled at a later date.

At the recent launch of her Chief Inspector’s report, Ms Noelle Buick, reported that fewer than four in 10 schools have co-operated fully with inspections over the past two years.

Ms Buick said that of 706 schools inspected during 2016-2018 only 39% had fully co-operated with inspectors.
